Body wraps: Should you get one?

Body wraps have been getting a lot of attention in the last decade, but the remarkable treatment is anything but a new discovery. The use of body wraps has been around since the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome and Egypt. That is because these therapies have been proven to detoxify and heal your body while restoring precious minerals. Now, the inch-reducing treatments, a mainstay of most posh salons and full-body spas since the 1980s, are making a huge comeback. Many people are getting them as either a supplement to a good diet plan or a quick fix for a night out on the town.

Is a body wrap right for you? More than likely, it is. Even if you are not too concerned about removing inches of fat, body wraps have also been used as a way to tone and tighten loose skin, remove excess fluid from subcutaneous tissues and alleviate joint and muscle pain. To help you decide, we will explain everything you need to know about this unique process below.

How body wraps work

Just below your skin, you will find several layers of fat consisting of individual fat cells situated in interstitial fluid. Due to a build up of toxins, lack of exercise, poor diets and aging, the fluid can backup to excess amounts. However, a body wrap treatment is made from ingredients that are specially chosen to restore healthy nutrients to the body while simultaneously withdrawing the extra fluids and toxins through a microdermabrasion process. Toxins are pollutants and chemicals that enter our body through our skin’s pores, the oxygen we breathe and the foods and beverages that we consume.

Body wraps remove the toxins and excess fluid through the processes of absorption and compaction. Absorption is the stage where a mixture is applied to the body directly on the skin or via the actual wrap which has been dipped in a compound. Aloe vera, seaweed and mud are some of the most effective cleansers used in this microdermabrasion process.

The second part of the treatment, compaction, is the squeezing of the tissues once the extraneous fluid and toxins have been removed. This is to compress together the empty pockets between fat cells, since they tend to hang limply like rung-out washclothes after cleansing. Compaction with the wrap allows for a firm, tight appearance.

The types of wraps we offer

There are different body wraps to meet the needs of different customers. If you want to get continuous treatments for maintenance purposes, a quick repair to fit in that special outfit or even if you are looking for long term results to supplement a healthy eating and exercise plan, we are sure to have a body wrap that’s perfect for you.

We offer four different body wraps at our salon. First, there is the Cryogenic Body Wrap, in which we use Cryo Lotion to lower the body’s temperature. Your body will use its natural energy to warm itself and burn fat reserves as calories. Then there is the Thermal Slim Body Wrap. It starts with a passion fruit exfoliation and concludes with a heated gel that is used to soften your skin, detoxify your body and firm your skin. We also have ourVitamin C Body Wrap, which regenerates your entire body and stimulates your natural collagen. Finally, our Micronized Marine Algae Body Wrap is a three algae wrap that is rich in iodine, which slims, detoxifies and re-mineralizes the body, and calcium and magnesium, which helps you to de-stress.

The results you can expect

The results of a body wrap can vary greatly. Remember, toxins come from different foods and drinks, and even the air we breathe. Depending upon the amount of toxins that you accumulate, a treatment can last for a few days or for as long as several weeks. You can increase the longevity of your results by eating healthier foods, including organic fruits and vegetables, and drinking more water daily.

If you notice that the inches are starting to creep back up or you feel the need to rejuvenate your skin and detoxify your body, you can always stop in for body wraps at regular intervals. You should consider full body treatments to be as routine as hair and nail salon appointments. They should be scheduled as needed to maintain your healthy look.

Be sure to take precautions

As with any spa or beauty treatment containing herbs used for medicinal purposes, if you are getting a body wrap, you must take certain precautions to ensure your personal safety. As a matter of fact, if you are taking any type of prescription medication, you should try to get a list of the ingredients of your chosen body wrap beforehand. Be sure to consult your physician about the possibility of any negative drug interactions.

Also, be sure to arrive completely hydrated. During a body wrap, you will sweat profusely and it is important that your body has an adequate supply of water.
